Edward Severin Rue was born on 16th March 1914 in the Pontypridd area of Glamorgan. His parents were Edward Rue and Gwenllian Magdelana nee Kuner (her parents were German and Welsh and the “Severin” part of her son’s name seems to be a part of her family tradition as her brother had the same middle name).
Edward’s parents appear to have split up sometime between his birth and 1919.
His mother died in 1919 when he was just 7. She was living at the time with her brother and sister at 6 Lan Parc Road in Pontypridd. She left a will in which she put her entire estate in trust with her brother, William and her sister, Ellen for the benefit of her son, Edward. Both William and Ellen were also residing at 6 Lon Parc Road and it seems clear to me that her son Edward probably lived there with them.
Edward’s father, Edward is not mentioned at all. He went on to marry again on 4th October 1919 to a lady he was already residing with at Trebethian Farm in Llanbethian.
I do not know whether the young Edward Severin had any contact with his father at all, however he is remembered as being an occasional visitor at Llanfarach Farm, Pontyclun, which was home to his older half brother Thomas and his family as well as Edward’s younger half brother, Arthur.
When he reached 21 years old, Edward Severin would have inherited what remained of his mothers estate.
Edward married Elizabeth M Pike in 1940 and they went on to have one daughter in 1942 in the Bristol area.
I understand that Edward was a school master, although this has yet to be confirmed.
Edward died in Weston-Super-Mare in November 1989.
