Stephen was born in May 1799 in Long Sutton, Somerset.  He was baptised on 17th May 1799.  His parents were John Rue and Grace
Masters.

He had one sister, Sarah, who was 3 years his senior.

Stephen married Mary Austin of Crewkerne, Somerset on 21st August 1821 in Martock in Somerset.

Stephen and Mary had four children, Mary Ann born in 1822, William born in 1825 and twins Jacob and Esau born in 1830, although
Esau did not survive.

Stephen was an Agricultural Labourer, who lived most of his life in Pitney, Somerset.

He died on 13th April 1868 supposedly aged 80 years (although I believe he was no more than 70!).

In the 1841 census he was a 47 year old, living in Pitney with his wife, Mary and their children Mary and Jacob.

In the 1851 census he was a 61 year old, still living in Pitney with his wife Mary, the children had all left by then.

Stephen (aged 64), and Mary are still In Pitney in the 1861 census.

Throughout life, in census returns his occupation was given as Agricultural Labourer however his death certificate says he was a
dealer in Fish, and on his daughter Mary’s second marriage, her father is given as Stephen Rue, a fisherman.

His son, Jacob, was present at the death and signed the death certificate.
