Baptised on 26th April 1857 in Pitney, the first daughter of Jacob & Emma (nee Ball), who previously had just one son.
Sophia was with Jacob, Emma, older brother, John and younger sister, Rosina in Pitney in the 1861 census. She was 4 years old and already listed as a scholar.
Aged just 14 in the 1871 census she was a domestic servant in the Pitney home of the Smith-Cambers family.
She married Thomas Scriven on 17th April 1877 in Pitney.
The Scrivens were a big local family, although Thomas was a Scriven from his maternal side. His father appears to be a John Keirl/Keirle.
They has a son, Henry John born in 1878, and a daughter, Mary Ella born 1880.
In 1881, Thomas (31), Sophia (aged 24), Henry (3) and Mary (1) were all living in Pitney.
They has Edward Oliver in 1883, Alice Amelia in 1885, Frederick in 1887 and Emma/Emily Jane in 1890.
In the 1891 census the whole family, Thomas, Sophia (33) and their 6 children were all in High Ham, Somerset.
They then had Annie in 1893, Reginald in 1896 and May in 1898.
In the 1901 census, Thomas, Sophia (44), Frederick, Emily, Annie, Reginald and Mary are all living back in Pitney.
Finally they had Phyllis, born in 1902.
By 1911 Thomas had died and Sophia (54) is shown as a widow still in Pitney, with Henry, Reginald, May and Phyllis. Sophia was then a worker as a charwoman.
Having had 10 children there is probably more to this family, although I have not yet researched it. Some Scrivens from this area certainly ended up in New York, USA in the 1930’s.
