Baptised on 9th June 1861 in Pitney, Oliver was the 4th child of Jacob & Emma, giving them 2 sons and 2 daughters.
In the 1871 census he is shown with Jacob, Emma, John aged 16, Rosina aged 12, Edward aged 8, Walter aged 6 and Mary aged 2. He is aged 10 but already an agricultural labourer.
Missing in 1881 census?
On 28th October 1885 he married Annie Walters.
In the 1891 census, Oliver was aged 29, an agricultural labourer, living in Somerton. With him was his wife, Annie Rue, a 30 year old Launderess. Also was his “daughter”, one Sarah A Walters, who was an 11 year old scholar.
In 1901, Oliver was living alone, back in Somerton Hill Road, Long Sutton. He was 40, a stone quarryman. I have not found where Annie is, although do have a possible match for Sarah in a hospital in Crewkerne.
By 1911, Oliver (aged 50- still a stone quarryman) and Annie are living together again. They are in Upton, Long Sutton. They are shown to have been married for 26 years, and having one child. This child was shown as being of both of them.
I have Annie Walters in the 1881 census with her 1 year old daughter, Sarah Ann, living in Crewkerne. There is no sign of Oliver.
I have found a likley marriage in June 1901 for Sarah Ann Walters, aged 21, in Crewkerne, to a George Pitman Perry, and no father is listed for her. It does seem to me that Oliver probably raised her as his own, although she maybe wasn’t his.
Annie died in 1946 and Oliver died on 13th January 1947 whilst residing at Rowley Cottage, Upton, Long Sutton. He was 84 years old and a retired farm labourer. He died of a coma and cerbral haemorrage and the death was registerd by a D Miles from Rowley House – the same person who had registered the death of Annie less than 6 months earlier.
