Goodwin Rue was born on 18th November 1885 in New Mill, Llantrisaint, Glamorgan.  He was the second son born to William Rue, a farm labourer, and Elizabeth (formerly Goodwin).

In the 1891 census we see William & Elizabeth Rue living at Number 28 Loftus Terrace in Llantrisant with their 2 sons William James aged 8 and “Godwin” aged 5.  Both boys spoke both Welsh and English.

Sometime in the early 1890’s the parents split up with the boys and their mother, Elizabeth mvoing to Warrington with an Albert Clemson.
Their father, William remarries in 1897 giving himself as a bachelor and it seems doubtful whether the boys had any further contact with him.

Goodwin died on 28th January 1898 when aged just 11 years.  The death is recorded in the name of Goodwin Clemson, although it appears that his mother never did marry Albert Clemson.  They were living at 13 Egerton Street Warrington by then and his mother and Albert Clemson remained there for some time (see her page for photos of Egerton Street).

The death certificate shows cause of death as “Chronic Brights Disease – Convulsions” which is some kind of kidney disease.

Albert Clemson is the person registering th death and he is shown as a wire works labourer, the father of the deceased.
