Sarah Davies was born in about 1862 in Camarthen, Wales. Her father was William Davies, a railway porter.
Sarah was the second wife of William Rue, they married in Caridiff register office on 2nd November 1897. They given as being bachelor and
spinster on their marriage certificate, however we know for certain that William had previously been married and had two sons who were
by then with his first wife and her new “husband” in Warrington, Cheshire. At the time of their marriage William was living in The Bridge Inn
in Ely and Sarah living in Cathedral Road, Canton.
William and Sarah’s first child, Violet Ellen was born in 1898. It is possible they then had a Albert/Alfred in 1900 who died whilst still a
newborn, although the proof is yet to be found.
In the 1901 census the family were living at 91 Chard Road in Cardiff. William was a 40 year old coal hewer, Sarah was 39 years old and Violet was just 2.
William and Sarah then had two further children, George born on 4th August 1902 in Aberavon and Edith born in 1905.
Sarah can be seen in th 1911 census as a 46 year old with her husband, William a 48 year old small haulier, along with their 3 children, Violet 12, George 8 and Edith 6. They were living at 117 Main Street, Cardiff. The schedule shows that the couple had 4 children but only 3 surviving, which supports my theory that they had a son, Albert/Alfred in 1900.
William died in 1933, and Sarah died in 1944.
