Dorothy Lydia Mary Harrod, the daughter of John Harrod a carpenter, was born near the Cardiff area of South Wales on 3rd December 1917.
She was a 26 year old spinster living at 41 Morel Street, Barry when she married the 41 year old widower, George Rue at the East Glamorgan Register Office on 5th February 1944. George and Dorothy were apparently neighbours before their marriage as he resided at 39 Morel Street Barry.
George was a motor lorry driver at the time of marriage, he had 4 daughters aged between 16 and 22 years old. He previous wife had died in 1932.
One of his daughters was already married by the time he married Dorothy, 2 married later that same year and the last married a few years later, and so it appears that he waited until his daughters were “grown up” and living independently of him before remarrying.
George and Dorothy had 4 children, 2 boys in 1946 and 1947 and 2 girls in 1944 and 1958.
Although I have limited information about these siblings it is not contained in this website as it is not yet historical.
It would appear that all 8 of Georges children were quite close, and also that they all remained in the Barry area.
George and Dorothy must have moved to the Newark area of Nottinghamshire at some time although I do not know when or why but they both died there, George in 1982 and Dorothy in 2001.
