George was born on 4th August 1902 in 38 Wern Square, Aberavon the son of William Rue and Sarah nee Davies. He had an older sister, Violet born in 1898 and his parets had a son called Albert/Alfred in 1900 who died as a baby.
When George was born his fathers occupation was given as a general labourer, although in the 1901 census he gave himself a coal hewer.
The family went on to have a further daughter, Edith, born in 1905.
In the 1911 cenus we see the family were living at 117 Main Street, Cardiff. There is William aged 48, a small haulier, his wife Sarah aged 46 and their 3 children Violet aged 12, George aged 8 and Edith aged 6.
George married a spinster, 17 year old Winifred Mary Hopkins of 37 Broad Street, Barry on 5th April 1922. George was 19, living at 2 Guys Road, Cadoxton, Barry and was a Haulier. His father is given as William Rue also a Haulier. The witnesses to the marriage were Alfred Hopkins and Stanley Yard. The marriage took place at the Register Office in Cardiff.
George and Winifred had 4 daughters. Winifred born 1922, Sylvia in 1923, Rose in 1925 and Rita in 1928. All 4 went on to marry and as Rue’s have pages of their own here, although I have gone no further than their marriages.
Winifred appears to have died towards the end of 1932.
George then married, aged 41 a widower a contractor motor lorry driver living at 39 Morel Street Barry to Dorothy Lydia Mary Harrod a 26 year old spinster of 41 Morel Street, Barry. Again this marriage took place in the Register Office. The witnesses were JH Marl and E Rue (probably Georges sister, Edith).
George and Dorothy had 4 children, 2 boys in 1946 and 1947 and 2 girls in 1944 and 1958.
At some time George and Dorothy appear to have moved to the Newark area of Nottinghamshire. He died there in 1982 and Dorothy died there in 2001.
