Gladys Irene Rue was born on 3rd January 1917 in Neath she was the second child born to Albert & Dolly Rue, she had one older sister and then 2 younger sisters and 3 younger brothers. She remained close to her siblings throughout her whole life.
On 28th September 1946 Gladys married Arthur Henry Rue in The Church of St Thomas in Neath. Arthur was Gladys’ cousin – her father Albert was the brother of his father Arthur.
At that time Arthur was 27 and a builders labourer and lived at 32 Wallace Road in Neath and Gladys who was 29 lived at 22 Idwal Street in Neath.
The witnesses were his brother, Terrence Rue and her sister, Joyce Lewis.
I believe that Gladys and Arthur had grown up together and had been courting prior to him going to fight in the Second World War in 1939. He was captured in May 1940 and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner in a German camp in Poland. He was finally released and returned home in May 1945.
